Compete When You're Ready

Tournaments are optional competitive events that allow students to test their skills, gain experience, and challenge themselves in a structured environment outside of regular training.

While tournaments aren't required for every student, they can be incredibly beneficial for those who are interested in competition, personal growth, and higher-level training goals.

Participation is always a personal choice and should align with the student's interests, readiness, and goals — not pressure from anyone else.

🎯 Our coaches evaluate readiness individually and will always give families honest guidance before any registration decision is made.

Are Tournaments Required?

Tournaments are not mandatory for all students. The majority of our members train for fitness, fun, and self-defense — and never compete in a formal tournament. That's completely valid.

However, for students pursuing a competition-focused path or training on the competition team, tournament participation may be expected at certain stages. Coaches will always communicate expectations clearly and help families decide what makes the most sense for each individual student.

If you're curious about competing, the best first step is a conversation with a coach — before or after class, or at the front desk.

Tournament Dates & Planning

Some tournament dates are announced well in advance; others are confirmed closer to the event
Availability depends on the tournament organizer, location, and division offerings
We do not maintain a fixed public list of dates — upcoming opportunities are announced as confirmed
If you see a tournament on Smoothcomp you're interested in, let a coach know

Because schedules change, we recommend checking in with your coach regularly if competition is a goal. We'll always keep you in the loop on events that make sense for your level.

Rules & Governing Bodies

How to Know If a Tournament Is a Good Fit

Not every tournament is right for every student. Before committing, coaches will help families work through the key considerations:

Readiness and eligibility for the division
Time commitment required for preparation
What preparation and expectations look like
Costs involved (registration, travel, gear)
Safety considerations for the event format

Our goal is to make sure students are prepared, confident, and supported — whatever they decide.

Questions or Interest?

If you or your child are interested in tournaments, the best next step is a conversation. Speak with a coach before or after class, or ask at the front desk. We're happy to walk you through the options.
